It’s an absolute boondoggle for sure. I will never have kids, but I don’t mind paying taxes to send other peoples kids to receive a public education. What I do mind is paying for parents to fund their kid’s education through other means at Idahoan’s tax dollars.
First, there is very little Trump can say that will convince me he is behind ANY citizen of this country, save the multi-millionaires. On the topic of school subsidies - there is absolutely no reason why my tax dollars should go to people who can afford to send their kids to a private school of their choice, while this administration is cancelling "Meals on Wheels" for our seniors. I would call that WELFARE for the rich.
Thank You Jim Jones for another thoughtful guest editorial.
After reading President Trump's enthusiastic support of spending the $50 million to empower parents, I realized he did not mean JUST private school students, so I sent the following letter to Idaho Senators and Representatives:
-------------------------------
There have been several proposals over the years, and three just in the 2025 Legislature, requiring public funding for students in private schools. The question is, why not give every Idaho student the same commitment of public tax dollars?
President Trump posted on Truth Social that-
"$50 million dollars to empower parents to provide the very best education for their child – GREAT news for Idaho families."
The number of Idaho public school students is approximately 300,000. Distributing the proposed $50 million across all public school students would provide $167 dollars for each Idaho student. I believe President Trump had this in mind in his weekend text.
The Idaho House, Senate, and Governor should truly reconsider that they must follow the President's recommendation and distribute the $50 million across the entire Idaho public school enrollment!

I haven't heard back from anyone at this point, but look forward to an engaging conversation.
