This is unacceptable. There are many people that belong to different religions and some that are not. Absolutely not okay to bring the Bible into public school. Do it at home or church. My taxpayer dollars do not pay for their skewed Bible teachings.
Thank you for this post. This latest effort to force the Christian Right's agenda on the citizens of Idaho is terrifying. Please continue to point out their plans and educate people who may not otherwise be aware.
Christian Nationalism is an obvious gateway to pure Nationalism. Nationalism leads to isolationism and conservative autocracy. Democracy and freedom of choice soon abandon Nationalism.
This spot on. Personally, I have never been a fan of home schooling, but if this became part of the mandatory curriculum, I would take my child out of school. And I read the Bible regularly in addition to other religious texts. This move is ALL about political control, not spiritual or religious.
I believe that public schools at all levels should offer, but should be be limited to 1 minute of nondenominational silent prayer along side the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag each morning at the beginning of the classroom sessions. Then it is on to Reading , Writing, Math, history of the local, state, US and some world history in the upper grades, Sciences, speech, physical education and computer science. Electives could be art, music, athletic programs, and debate skills (teaches thinking and speaking in a logical and informative matter. I think in the upper grades courses should be taught in methodology of learning and using common sense (critical thinking in its purest form). Classes in ethics and common morality could also be incorporated in the higher grades. in the lower grades teachers should teach the basics of the golden rule and basic respect and tolerance for the the beliefs and property of others. The only pronouns we need to memorize are " We the People". We are all in this world together.
Students should be required to read The Constitution!
